We had the worst experience in 20 years of travel in Mexico at the non-luxury, very expensive El Farro 2 condo in Punta Mita. The owner Donna told us that it was a shame 1/2 the plumbing didn't work, that we weren't allowed to move things around at the pool, and that there is no decent maid service available. To top it all off, she has not returned our deposit of $300, after a month - and she doesn't return our emails or calls.

Oh yes, make sure you have an escort when you walk to the restaurant at night- definitely sketchy.

There are many fine places in Mexico - don't rent this place which is advertised as a luxury rental.

You will not be happy if you rent from these Rude (Eric and Barbara Rudd) people at Casita Cielto.
I was extremely disappointed and am very glad I was able to cancel the second half of my stay there as the owners did not deliver what was promised. Even after multiple phone calls and emails to verify details, I was extremely surprised to be lied to and taken advantage of by people who certainly should know better. I was embarrassed to associate with them as Americans. What was promised as a heavenly vacation paradise was much more like a cement prison near very rude people. Casita Cielito is one part of a larger rental lodging that has marketing promises all over it. The onsite, rich American owners:
    1. Did not welcome me or even offer to help me with luggage as I arrived. Told me to empty my own garbage in town, did not offer phone use for the necessary taxi rides, or offer to drive me to town on their many trips back and forth. Never once in 5 days stopped in to see if I needed anything or how things were going, even though they were literally on the other side of the wall. I paid more than $125 per night to be treated this way.
    2. They mentioned a flight of stairs, but did not say there were more than 125 uneven, cement, un-lit and straight up the side of a steep hill, with no railing. I also never saw or heard any of their group of 4 use the stairs over a period of 5 days. They drove every time they needed to go to town.
    3. Promised a car would not be needed at all, but the truth is their own car had the only parking place and they did not want to be inconvenienced.
    4. Promised beautiful views - but there were NONE- not even a chair or place to sit outside, only views were from their house which was behind a locked gate. "My view" was of their parked car in a carport directly in front of the front door.
    5. Promised quiet, sunny, private location - failed to mention their own family would be yelling to each other across the balconies, walking back and forth to their car and slamming the large front door at all hours, walking up and down a metal staircase on the roof of my house which clanged and reverberated through the cement walls. Since they were all around, I could not open the curtains of the house, so it was more like a dun colored cement prison than an open sunny hilltop paradise as marketed.
    6. Promised internet connection - turns out when I arrived, they didn't think it reached to the casita. They obviously knew this earlier.
    7. They failed to pull their car forward, so that anyone dropping me off or taxis, had no place to turn around safely.
    8. There was no BBQ or any pots or pans in the "lovely" kitchen.
You will probably not want to stay here. I have noticed on their website that the prices have also gone up. In all my travels around the world, they are the least welcoming or gracious landlords (I was going to say hosts - but that would give them more credit than they deserve) I have had the misfortune to encounter. Casa Kukana rental experience substandard. We rented the "English Garden" 1 bedroom studio in January of 2008. The grounds are really nice and the view is great, but the owners are not accomodating. We had a 7-month old baby with us and ran out of water twice and went without water for 48 hours. When you are paying a premium to stay at this place I would expect the basics to be taken care of. They also have two dogs on site. According to the owners, they don't like Mexicans. I figure if you have a problem with Mexicans why are you going to vacation in Mexico? Anyway, the pit bull type dog ended up biting me while I was carrying my 7-month old son. Needless to say, we left immediately after that and demanded a refund for the 2 nights that we did not stay for. The owners agreed to refund the money via Pay Pal, but 2 months later they still did not pay. They finally made up some false stories and refunded us only $100 of the $200 we asked for. If this blog entry can keep just one family from reconsidering these accomodations it will be worth it. FYI this family also owns the Budda Bar in town as well as the trinket store directly under it. They were never busy when we were there, so they're probably hurting for business anyway, but I would avoid these establishments, too.

How unfortunate that we keep hearing bad things about Casa Kakuna over and over again ! With the eagerness this family has to make loads and loads and loads of money you would think they realized by now that they need to give the type of service that goes with the type of price they charge !!! Common business sense ! Over the years many many complaints have been heard regarding Suzanne and her daughter Summer including her ex-boyfriend's incredible stories about getting drunk at weddings they had organized and charged and acting like an animal.
Kakuna, casa, spa, boutique or bar....get your act together and stop making bad publicity for Sayulita !!!!!

We spent 1 of the best vacations at Sayulita Beach!! Simply loved the town with its little plaza, restaurants offering different kinds of food (Italian, French, Mexican, etc), the cutest bars where you could find locals mingling with tourists. Our 4 days at the beach were magnificent, lots of sun, waves (2 watch, not much of a water person), and the water was warm after being 5mnts in it..lol. I want 2 recommend the following: 1-Bahia del Mar, the lady in charged was very polite & attentive. They changed our towels, cleaned & made our bed daily. 2- Bar Don Pato was a small but welcoming place to listen to music. 3- Fail 2 remember the name of the restaurant at the beach, but its the only one with tables covered with colorful tablecloths, nestled under umbrellas, enjoyed the latin music they placed.. the seafood is excellent. I had a better time at Sayulita than at Puerto Vallarta.

I just wanted to let you all guys know that I had the best time ever when I was in Sayulita two weeks ago. The best part of my stay was, by far, taking Spanish classes at a place called Sayulita Suites. Lyn there has the most amazing teacher ever; her name is Paula and, besides being fully qualified as a teacher, she teaches the most fun classes you can imagine. I never thought learning a language could be that easy and fun!!!! I want to post her phone number so anyone who's interested can call her: 322-1479552
    She's really great!!!!!!!!!
